The independent guide for those arriving by sea in Marettimo.
The Roman Houses on an ancient garrison, the Punta Troia Castle perched over the sea, and the archipelago's highest peak — Marettimo is the wildest and most remote of the Egadi Islands. Part of the Porti Italia network of territorial guides — from the port to the territory, local experiences, ferries, hotels and much more.
Indicative tourist coordinates only
Porti Italia is an independent editorial network. Each domain in the network is a territorial guide — not an official website, not a Port Authority portal, not an OTA.
We are the answer to the question every traveler asks the moment they step ashore: now what? Where to go, how to get around, where to stay, what's truly worth experiencing in this territory.
Each guide in the network is built around a specific port territory. Editorial content, selected affiliations, local experience.
No affiliation with Port Authorities, shipping companies or institutional bodies. Free editorial content only.
Every guide tells the story of a territory — not just a port. The Ligurian Riviera, Eastern Sicily, Salento, Sardinia.
Travelers who land need immediate answers. Our guides are designed for those who have just stepped ashore.
From the Tyrrhenian to the Adriatic, from major islands to minor ports. The network covers Italy's main maritime gateways.
The 150 BC Roman Houses with the 11th-century Byzantine chapel, the Punta Troia Castle, and Pizzo Falcone (686 m, the Egadi's highest peak). Practical guides with distances and local tips.

According to some interpretations, its ancient Greek name, Hierà Nésos ('sacred island'), would link it to the legendary homeland of Ulysses told by Homer, though it remains a fascinating hypothesis more than a historical certainty.
The remains of a Roman military settlement from around 150 BC, evidence of the island's strategic importance after Rome's victory in the First Punic War; next to it stands a small 11th-century Byzantine chapel.
Pizzo Falcone, at 686 meters above sea level, is located on Marettimo and is reachable with about a 1 hour 40 minute trek from the village.
Practically none: the island is explored on foot along trekking trails or by boat via sea; the village around the port is the only inhabited center.
